Labor and Delivery Unit Minimize

WAC labor and delivery.jpgThe Labor and Delivery Unit is located on the third floor of the Pavilion.  Upon admission, you will be taken to a beautiful, large private birthing suite with a state-of-the-art birthing bed and private bathroom with whirlpool tub.  We are committed to helping you have the birthing experience you want.  We offer water therapy, birthing balls and a nursing staff skilled in providing labor support techniques that will keep you relaxed and focused throughout your birthing experience.

Anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA) are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to help manage your pain during labor.  An anesthesiologist or CRNA can talk to you about pain management options during labor and delivery when you arrive.

For uncomplicated and normal vaginal deliveries, a certified nurse midwife is available to manage your labor and deliver your baby if you desire a more natural childbirth experience.

WAC OR.JPGMost women deliver in the birthing suite unless they are delivering more than one child (twins, triplets).  However, there are certain complications during labor that may require a Cesarean Section.  Some women may be pre-scheduled to deliver by Cesarean Section.

If you have a Cesarean Section, your delivery will take place in one of three state-of-the-art operating rooms.  Most Cesarean Sections are performed with anesthesia that allows you to be awake during the procedure and be able to hold your baby immediately after birth.

After an initial exam, the baby will stay with you during the recovery period, and accompany you to the Mom/Baby unit, or, if necessary, a nurse will accompany your child to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
