Denver Health is a teaching hospital where physicians who have faculty appointments at the University of Colorado School of Medicine educate the next generation of doctors, nurses and other health professionals. Teaching is a large component of Denver Health’s mission.
Throughout Denver Health and the Rocky Mountain Regional Trauma Center 2,400 residents, interns, student nurses and others receive hands-on patient care training annually.
The Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Denver Health is an ACGME/RRC approved training program that educates fellows in the advanced care of critically ill and injured patients. Rotational experience includes trauma, cardiac, burn, and pediatric, as well as general surgical critical care. The fellowship is designed to provide the critical care resident education in the principles and practices of state-of-the art surgical critical care. The fellowship is devoted to patient care, with didactic, clinical, and research components. In addition, Denver Health physicians and nurses regularly participate in regional and national outreach education, sharing their expertise, new techniques and procedures with other health professionals throughout the Rocky Mountain Region.
Denver Health’s Emergency Medicine Residency Training Program is one of the most highly sought after programs in the country. This year 14 candidates were selected out of 715 applicants to participate in the program.
The Denver Health Paramedic School is one of the best in the nation and enrolls 30 students each year in a rigorous 12-month course of study. The curriculum consists of more than 1,500 hours of preparation. It is fully accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP), upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). The school also serves as the exclusive center for all EMS training for Denver Fire Department EMTs. It provides the most physician teaching hours in the nation.
Telemedicine/Tele-Education: Denver Health's physicians, physician assistants and nurses frequently give educational presentations to medical staff in trauma centers throughout Colorado and neighboring states. The participants receive continuing education credit or certification, while Denver Health presenters share their expertise on a wide variety of important and timely trauma topics. These courses cover all aspects of adult and pediatric trauma care and can be customized to your needs. Educational programs are available on-site or via teleconference.
